Yes, as a cadet, you are required to wear uniforms. Chapin High School works on a block schedule (A-day 1-4, B-day periods 5-8) and depending on what day your class period falls on, you are required to wear a uniform on Wednesday or Thursday. We have many uniforms we wear from the Cadet service uniform to the Cadet camouflage uniform. Others include the Army physical fitness uniform, BN polo shirt and BN t-shirt.
PT is Physical Training, much like a regular gym class. We are scheduled to go out on Mondays/Tuesdays, and it is recommended you wear comfortable, athletic clothing. Everyone is required to participate. If you have a medical condition, be sure to get a doctor's note and notify the SAI or AI before going out.
No, JROTC is not a recruiting program. This course does not require cadets to join the military. The core curriculum focuses on leadership and character development.
Throughout the year, we conduct inspections. They are on the same days you wear your uniform. Be sure to look your best and know your knowledge. There are at least two major inspections each year in which our battalion is inspected by the personnel in the Director of Army Instruction (DAI) office. These are called DAI and every third year our headquarters in San Antonio conduct a Formal Inspection.
Yes, anyone can participate in an extra-curricular team (Drill Team, Color Guard, Honor Guard, Rifle Team, Orienteering Team, and Physical Fitness Team). Must maintain UIL eligibility (pass all classes) in order to participate and compete with these teams.
