Students are highly encouraged to participate in many activities throughout the school year on a volunteer basis. Dedicated participation may entitle the student to awards and decorations to be worn on the uniform and / or extra points toward the student’s JROTC grade. To participate, students must have parental permission, passing grades, an excellent appearance in uniform and be willing to devote the necessary time to practice and perform at many social or competitive events throughout the school year. The following teams are available for student participation.
A. Color Guard. This team presents and posts American and state flags at many events / activities such as civic meetings, sporting events or ceremonies at Chapin High School and at middle and elementary schools in our area.
B. Armed Drill Team. This team performs exhibition drill movements with mock rifles and competes in district and invitational meets, performs demonstrations at school, or performs at other special events such as parades. To be competitive, the drill team must have 10 team members.
C. Unarmed Drill Team. This team performs exhibition drill movements and routines without mock rifles and competes in district and invitational meets, marches in parades and performs exhibitions at other special events. To be competitive, the drill team must have 10 team members.
D. Rifle Team. This team fires precision air rifles using correct marksmanship and safety procedures and competes in district, invitational and other matches held after school and on weekends.
E. Orienteering Team. This team must be proficient in map reading and compass use, and possess good physical stamina to compete in district and invitational meets held on diverse terrain.
F. Saber Guard. This team drills with sabers and performs at special events such as the school homecoming, JROTC Military Ball and other community events.
H. Power Squad. This team attends football games and provides esprit-de-corps for the Corp and Chapin High School.
I. RAIDER Challenge Team- This is a physical challenge team that negotiates obstacle and conditioning courses. Cadets will construct and traverse a one-rope bridge. Knot tying skills and tying a swiss seat are taught. This team has the potential to go to the National Raider Challenge event at For Knox, KY.
J. Physical Fitness team- This team competes at all district and out of district skills meets. There are many events that challenge the Cadets physically- push ups, sit-ups, and pull up to name a few.
K. ROBOTICS- We have VEX Robotics! coming soon.
L. Archery- coming soon as well :)
